Disintegrating UFO

One quiet evening in the Spring of this year, I was standing on my back porch having a smoke waiting for my girlfriend to arrive home from work.

I was leaning against the side rail of the porch looking down my driveway towards the front of my house expecting her to pull into the driveway at any time. As I looked down the driveway, all of the windows of my own car (which was already parked there) lit up with extremely bright white light, almost like a flash of lightning!

Confused, I quickly turned around and saw a bright white object flying towards me from the sky.  It moved at an incredible speed and before I could make out what it was,  then it just disintigrated into dozens of bright white glittering shards.

Needless to say my hair stood on end and my heart skipped a beat and I was completely in awe of what I was seeing. The shards were only visible for 2 - 3 seconds and then the object was gone.  I stood there waiting for the object to re-appear for another 5 minutes but it never did.

I immediately called the local newspaper to let them know what I had seen and to see if anyone else had reported witnessing the event. Sadly, no one had. There were no reports in the following days paper either. I cannot confirm what it was I saw that night and I haven't shared the story with too many people for for fear of being ridiculed.

The people I HAVE told, told me that it was probably fireworks or something breaking up in the atmosphere but I refuse to believe this for these simple reasons:

a) It was a particularly quiet evening and the object made absolutely no noise, making it unlikely that it was fireworks

b) the object was moving far too fast in a downward direction (angled towards me) to be fireworks.

c) the object vanished no more than 200 ft from where I was standing and brightly lit all the windows of my car which in my humble opinion makes it unlikely that this was a meteorite or piece of satellite breaking up in the atmosphere.

I realize there are probably many possible explainations for what I saw that night, and I would be happy to hear any ideas from anyone who may be reading this.

    Hello,

Sometimes when "debris" (probably loose rock) from space travels at a great speed, it gets white hot. When it reaches our atmosphere of oxygen, it tends to break up as it interracts with matter (being H2O). I hope this helps
